Sook, a proptech innovator reimagining how retail space is used, has announced its partnership with Mall of Africa (MoA), a premier retail destination in South Africa. The collaboration opens doors for brands to lease Sook’s rentable space within the MoA’s complex in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The announcement marks a series of exciting milestones for Sook, representing the company’s debut into international markets and its first licence agreement. The lease is secured for a minimum of five years, during which Sook commits to providing on-going assistance in revenue generation and technical support to ensure the success of the new space at MoA.

This strategic partnership reflects the growing demand for innovative retail spaces like Sook. With a 0.7% increase in retail sales in June, it is evident that demand for in-person shopping experiences is on the rise. Through the MoA agreement, Sook is poised to cater to a growing appetite within the continent of Africa.

This is a landmark deal for Sook, as MoA licenses the brand’s design, commercial, technology assets and its flexible model. This breakthrough paves a global pathway to introduce Sook spaces to interaction brands, granting them access to its cutting edge retail technology.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Sook to the African market, and Mall of Africa serves as the perfect launchpad for its groundbreaking concept. Sook offers a fresh and dynamic solution for brands seeking flexible retail spaces, and we believe it will be a game-changer for ambitious entrepreneurs aiming to stand out in the market,” said Yasmeen Lorgat, Leasing Manager at MoA.

“With Sook, the retail space rental process has never been easier, empowering brands to create captivating shopper experiences. From customisable modular furnishings to engaging digital features, Sook equips brands to make an unforgettable impact,” Lorgat added.

Tom Price, Head of Site Acquisition at Sook, said “Our collaboration with MoA marks a significant step forward in reinvigorating the global retail landscape. This agreement isn’t just about spaces; it’s about creating one-of-a-kind, immersive experiences that resonate with South African shoppers.

“Together, we envision a powerful fusion of MoA’s renowned reputation and Sook’s innovative model, enabling us to create entirely new and captivating shopping experiences. Sook spaces cater to pop-ups, experiential marketing and product launches. This agreement opens doors for more South African businesses to make their mark in one of the most sought-after retail spaces.”
